Cultivate in the botanical gardens of European countries, this plant began in the XIX century. In Russia, they did not engage in special cultivation of Kalanchoe, and it spread only as an indoor culture.
Determining which plant is standing on your window is quite simple: the cirrus has round leaves, and those of the Kalanchoe Degremon are jagged, with many “children” along the edges. In addition, Kalanchoe Degremon is more prolific, and you can get offspring from him throughout the year.
Naturally, the diversity of Kalanchoe species is not limited to this. Some representatives of this genus are medicinal, others are decorative. Modern pharmacology studies all these species, conducting a study of their medicinal properties. Each of the plants in its own way is amazing and deserves at least a few words about its merits.
Kalanchoe pinnate has long been considered a pharmacopoeial plant and is officially approved for use in the manufacture of medicines and sale in the pharmacy network. It is scientifically proven that the juice of Kalanchoe pinnate has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic and wound healing properties. As medicinal raw materials, as in other types of Kalanchoe, only fresh leaves and shoots are used.
In nature, Kalanchoe pinnate reaches a height of 1 m and has a very strong fleshy stalk.
Florists are best acquainted with this type of Kalanchoe. Like its counterparts, this plant belongs to succulents that can absorb water from the surrounding air, so it does not need frequent watering. The leaves of Kalanchoe pinnate are opposite on the fleshy and lignified at the bottom of the stem. They are small, slightly pubescent with soft hairs, round, glossy. Their color varies from dark green to greenish-grayish and even slightly blue. The feathery Kalanchoe blooms weakly and irregularly, most often in late winter – early spring.
Perhaps this type of Kalanchoe earlier than the rest began to be used in traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases. And most often, Kalanchoe Degremon is used externally, in the form of lotions, ointments, and drops. Its main difference from other species is that its stem is much shorter than that of the other representatives of this family, it has an uneven surface, and often spreads. For this reason, this plant usually needs support. If not, Kalanchoe may break.
Because of them, the leaves acquire some roughness and seem voluminous. The flowers of Kalanchoe Degremon are also purple-gray.
Very interesting is the fact that often Kalanchoe Degremon is also called Goethe’s flower. This name was assigned to the plant in memory of the German writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe, who, when he first saw the Kalanchoe, was surprised at his generosity and fertility.
Degremon’s Kalanchoe propagates vegetatively with the help of daughter plants, which develop from brood buds that appear on the edges of oblong-pointed leaves. Having reached a certain size, they fall into the soil and take root in it.
Single-flowered Kalanchoe is a very interesting species of the Crassulaceae family. This species of Kalanchoe plant looks like a small epiphyte, which usually grows in cracks in the bark of trees. The main nutrients for it are the remains of rotted leaves and organic substances that fall into the gap.
The stem of this species of Kalanchoe is creeping, wattle-like can reach a length of 40 cm. The leaves are fleshy, in shape resemble an egg. Their length ranges from 10 to 18 mm, width – from 8 to 10 mm. Pink-purple flowers of a single-flowered Kalanchoe are very beautiful.
In folk medicine, this variety of Kalanchoe is used quite rarely, but despite this, it cannot be said that it is not used at all. In the area where the single-flowered Kalanchoe grows in natural conditions, it is used to prepare ointments. 300 ml of plant juice is mixed with 50 g of anhydrous lanolin and the same amount of petroleum jelly. The mass is thoroughly mixed and used as directed.
This species of Kalanchoe plant is not high. It has a weakly branching bare stalk, to which large (up to 7 cm in length) leafy leaves of dark green color with a red border are attached.
Equally unusual in this variety of Kalanchoe flowers, collected in a multi-flowered inflorescence. They can be pink, orange, scarlet or red.
As for its use, the plant is indispensable in the treatment of burns and as a biostimulant. Often used the juice of this type of plant and in the complex treatment of trophic ulcers and purulent infections. Especially often, the healing properties of this type of Kalanchoe are used in combination with perforated Hypericum oil.
This plant is not widely known. It is a low shrub with many aerial roots in the lower part of the shoots. The leaves of Kalanchoe Fedchenko are light green in color with a slight bluish-gray bloom. Their edges are jagged, and a red stripe runs along with the sheet itself. However, sometimes there are leaves with yellow-white spots in the center and a bright pink stripe at the edges.
Leaves, having an obovate shape, are attached to the stem with the help of short petioles. Old leaves are covered with purple spots, and all the teeth have different sizes: large at the end of the leaf, small at the bottom. The flowers are brownish pink, collected in inflorescences. When they dry, new shoots appear from nearby buds, and everything is repeated again.
This species of Kalanchoe owes its name to the wife of Aleksei Pavlovich, Olga Alexandrovna, who, after the death of her husband, continued his work on the study of the wild and cultural flora of Central Asia. The son of scientists – Boris Alekseevich, who inherited from his parents a love of research, subsequently became a major geobotanist and one of the best experts on the flora of Central Asia.
Kalanchoe juice Fedchenko has healing properties. With it, you can treat some allergic skin diseases, dermatitis, and also treat wounds. Before applying the juice should be diluted with boiled water in a ratio of 1: 3.
The gruel of the leaves of this plant helps well with burns, you just need to attach the mass to the burned area of the skin. This will protect her from infection and speed up the healing process.
